Week Five Review
After the FIFA International break, the French Ligue 1 returned to action in what was its fifth week.
High Flying Monaco Stopped
Despite dominating large chunks of their clash with Lorient, AS Monaco were left frustrated to only take home a point due to a crushing 98th minute equaliser from the home side.
Getting off to a shocking start, Les Monegasques immediately found themselves behind within two minutes when Aiyegun Tosin slotted home coolly but they drew level on the 17th minute following an outstanding collective passage, which culminated in Aleksandr Golovin smartly finding the back of the net.
Summer signing Folarin Balogun bagged his first goal for his club with authority in the second half and when Monaco thought they had collected all the points only for Romain Faivre to score in stoppage time.

Mendy returns
Benjamin Mendy made his return to football two years since last playing after being cleared of rape as he comes off the bench for Lorient in Ligue 1. The left back was named on the bench against Monaco and came on for Vincent Le Goff with 19 minutes of normal time remaining, and was on the field when his side netted a 98th minute equaliser through Romain Faivre.
The Frenchman had not played since August 2021 amid being cleared of accusations of rape.
PSG Beaten
Terem Moffi again showed he loves scoring against Ligue 1 champions PSG with a brace and an assist for Nice to win 3-2 in Paris. The striker has now scored five goals in six matches against the star-studded PSG, whose captain Kylian Mbappe took exception to the goal celebration by the Super Eagles striker.
Moffi had given Nice a 21st minute lead but Mbappe equalized seven minutes later. Gaetan Laborde then regained Nice’s lead before Moffi added his second and the visitors third in the 68th minute and despite Mbappe halfing the deficit again three minutes from time, the visitors held on for the three points.
