Bayern Munich maintained their four point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a hard fought 3-2 win over Wolfsburg. The Bavarians started to threaten right from the off with Vincent Kompany’s side eventually taking the lead after a dominant opening 20 minutes. The goal came from Leon Goretzka, who received the ball from Joshua Kimmich before driving forward and unleashing a thunderous strike from the edge of the box into the bottom-left corner. The visitors refused to lie down and equalised just four minutes later through Mohamed Amoura.  Bayern restored their lead in the 39th minute when Michael Olise found the back of the net. They then had a goal disallowed just before the break. The home side looked to have secured the three points when they scored a third goal but were made to sweat when Wolfsburg scored in the 88th minute to make it 3-2. The log leaders endured a nervy final few minutes before claiming the win.

Lucky eight for Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen continued their remarkable resurgence with their eighth straight victory in the Bundesliga to maintain the pressure on leaders, Bayern Munich. It was the champions 11th win on the trot across all competitions. They scored a comfortable 3-1 home win over Borussia Monchengladbach despite a sluggish start that saw them struggle to create any clear cut chances early on. The home side managed their first shot on target in the 25th minute when Alejandro Grimaldo delivered a cross to Patrik Schick but the Czech striker’s header was directed straight at goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas. Despite initially holding off the pressure, the visitors eventually conceded just after the half-hour mark as Granit Xhaka’s incisive pass found Florian Wirtz, who evaded the last defender and calmly slotted the ball past Nicolas. Wirtz grabbed his second from the penalty spot before Schick secured the three points after finding the back of the net. Monchengladbach grabbed a consolation goal but it was too little too late.

Frankfurt continue surge into third place

Eintracht Frankfurt’s excellent season got even better on Friday night as they saw off Borussia Dortmund 2-0. The win saw them move four points clear in third place after the chasing teams all failed to win. Dortmund are now down to a shocking 10th spot on the log after their third consecutive loss. They are now in real danger of missing out on any of the European places. Stuttgart were the big winners in the race for Champions League places as both RB Leipzig and Mainz failed to win. The Red Bull side in particular will be kicking themselves after their 3-3 draw with bottom club, Bochum. They looked to be heading to an easy victory as they stormed into a 3-0 halftime lead but Myron Boadu had other ideas. The Bochum striker had an incredible second half hattrick that saw his team share the spoils. The result left Leipzig a point behind fourth placed Mainz.

Hoffenheim and St.Pauli big winners in relegation battle

Victories for Hoffenheim and St. Pauli saw them move out of the relegation zone and eased their fears of the dreaded drop. In a relegation battle with fellow strugglers Holstein Kiel, Hoffenheim emerged 3-1 victors. The result was a potential six point swing for them as they moved onto 17 points, three points clear of the drop zone. St.Pauli won their relegation scrap with Heidenheim 2-0 which took them out of the bottom three positions. Bottom club produced the comeback of the round as they came from three goals down against Leipzig to force a 3-3 draw. They however still remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Race for the Golden Boot

The two horse race for the Golden Boot continued between Harry Kane and Omar Marmoush. Both men failed to find the back of the net in the latest round of the matches although the Egyptian did score in the mid week game for his side. Despite the rumours he may be moving to Manchester City, he has continued his brilliant season. Jonathan Burkardt remains in third place with 12 goals.
