02-09-2023 Daily Prediction Bunnings NPC Canterbury vs Taranaki

Canterbury vs Taranaki

Canterbury welcomes Taranaki to the Orange Theory Stadium for this encounter in the Bunnings NPC. Both teams suffered their first loss of the season last time out with Canterbury losing to champions Wellington while Taranaki were rolled over by the Bay of Plenty.

The home side will be determined to avoid consecutive home losses and will look to shore up their defence as they have shipped 62 points in their last two matches. The visitors will be looking to bounce back from their defeat and will be confident as they have won their last two matches against Canterbury.

TIP: Canterbury have a host of former All Blacks in their teams and will be looking for an all-round better performance especially from fullback Chay Fihaki. He was responsible for two of the tries with his poor tackling technique. Taranaki experimented with Stephen Perofeta in the ten jersey and it was a disaster as he struggled to control the game. We should see a return of Jason Potroz back at flyhalf with Perofeta returning to fullback. The bookies have Canterbury as favorites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.25, Gbets 1.26 and Hollywoodbets 1.25

HEAD TO HEAD STATS

PREDICTION

Both teams will be looking to their big-name players to step up after recording their first defeat of the season. Canterbury will want the recently capped All Black Dallas Mcleod to show the form that got the attention of the national selectors as he has looked a shadow of his former self. Taranaki will need Perofeta to improve his game ten fold, especially his kicking as he missed easy opportunities with the boot. One of the highlights of the match will be Kini Naholo up against Mataele on the wing which could be explosive. The power of the Canterbury side makes me predict a home win by more than 10 points.
