Italy vs England
Italy welcome England to the Stadio Olimpico to kick off their campaign in the 2024 Six Nations. The home side have never beaten the visitors in 30 previous matches but will be hoping for a much closer contest compared to the last time the English were in Rome. Both teams have are going through a transitional phase since the World Cup with Italy having a new coach. England have had retirements of some senior players while the single biggest loss is that of their Captain Owen Farrell who has chosen to skip the tournament. He will be heading to Racing 92 next season which could effectively end his international career.
TIP: Italy are at full strength for this match and will be looking for some Garbisi magic as the brothers Paolo and Alessandro line up in the halfbacks. England have been forced into plenty of changes with Marcus Smith getting injured in training which has meant George Ford will take the ten jersey. There is also a debut for New Zealand born Ethan Roots on the flank whose contest with veteran Sebastian Negri promises to be a baptism of fire. The bookies have England as favorites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.11, Gbets 1.12 and Hollywoodbets 1.11
Italy vs England
- Italy have never beaten England in the Six Nations.
- Italy have lost their last 5 home matches against England by more than 20 points.
Latest results for both teams
Italy lost 60-7 to France in their last match while England beat Argentina 26-23 in their last match.
Italy have the more experienced team on the park and will look to put the inexperienced England team under pressure. The scrum will be the one area that the visitors seem to have the advantage in and will target the home sides front row. If the Italian pack can at least gain parity in the match, then they can lay the platform for the likes of their devastating wingers in Ange Capuozzo and Monty Ioane. England have some excellent attackers themselves in Tommy Freeman and Fraser Dingwall. This match is likely to be much closer than previous encounters between the teams. I am predicting an England win by 8 points.
