Brumbies vs Hurricanes

The Brumbies will be very disappointed with their showing last week against the Blues as they hardly fired a shot in anger. The Hurricanes had another impressive outing against the Force last match. The home team looks to be the best balanced from the Aus. teams with a good mix of powerful forwards and exciting backs. They will be desperately seeking a victory to halt a run of four losses. The Brumbies are a proud rugby team and will be hurting therefore I expect a back lash from them. The Hurricanes will be bolstered by the return of club captain Ardie Savea who is always inspirational to the team. The Brumbies have had an unfair draw in the competition with three away matches and will be keen to show their home supporters that they are still a top team. They need to get back to basics and use their rolling maul to better effect. They seem to have changed their game plan and were trying to run the ball from poor areas on the field.  The Hurricanes will again be chasing a bonus point victory and this could play into the hands of the Brumbies. The home team will need a great defensive set to keep the visitors at bay as they have great attacking threats like Ngani Laumape and Salesi Rayasi. The home team needs to get their backline firing as they too have star attackers in Tom Banks and Solomone Kata. Tom Banks has always looked dangerous with ball in hand and will be keen to show his skills to the home fans. The team that wins the forward battle will win this game and the Brumbies seem to hold the slight edge in this regard.

TIP: The home ground and fans will certainly give the Brumbies the boost they need. They haven’t been playing badly but have had a few close decisions go against them that have turned results against them. They need Len Ikitau to regain his early season form and he is a vital component of their attack. He creates the space for others that have been lacking in their defeats. The player that is an absolute wrecking ball is Rob Valetini and the more ball he sees the better for the Brumbies. He creates problems for every opposing team with his power and physicality. The bookies have the Hurricanes as favourites for this clash but I am expecting the brumbies to bounce back in this match and cause an upset. There are great odds on the Brumbies upset victory. These are the best odds: Worldsportsbetting 3.30, Playabets 3.55 and Sunbet 3.00

Brumbies vs Hurricanes

  • The Hurricanes have won three of the last five meetings between the sides with the Brumbies winning two.
  • In six home matches against the Hurricanes the Brumbies have only lost once.
  • The last match between these sides saw the Brumbies win 24-14.

Latest results for both teams

The Brumbies lost their last match against the Blues 38-10 while the Hurricanes won their last match against the Force 43-6.

The Hurricanes have not being really tested in their matches especially in defence. They have faced teams with poor attacking skills set and this could be the match their defence will need to be at its best. The Brumbies will need to dominate up front and they have a strong front row that should have the upper hand at scrum time. The Hurricanes no doubt will be boosted by Savea’s return but that does not mean they will have it easy against the Brumbies. The halfback pairing of the Brumbies need to exploit the Hurricanes weakness in the nine and ten positions. This is an area that the Hurricanes lack experience and class. The desperation to end the losing streak and backed by the local crowd makes me believe that the Brumbies will win a close match by 4 points

Predictions and Odds in details

The matches between these sides always tend to be close affairs and this match promises to be the same. The Brumbies have followed the tactic of leaving a few first team regulars on the bench so that they can make an impact when they come on later in the match. They do have a superior bench to the Hurricanes and I think this will give them the edge in the final quarter. The Brumbies need Noah Lolesio to show his attacking skills and run at the Hurricanes inexperienced half back combination. This will allow them to get the go forward ball that they need to release Banks and Kata. The home team need their powerful rolling maul to fire in this match and if they achieve this then they should come away with a victory. The odds are great on the upset win but if you are afraid on backing the Brumbies for the outright win then I suggest backing them on a generous handicap. The best odds on the brumbies handicap are as follows: Worldsportsbetting (+7.5) 1.90, Sunbet (+6.5) 1.95 and Playabets (+7.5) 1.79
