Exeter Chiefs vs Stormers
Former champions Exeter Chiefs welcome URC Champions the Stormers to Sandy Park for this quarter final match in the Champions Cup. The home team squeaked past Montpellier in the last round with a last minute try in extra time to tie the match 33-33. They were declared winners on the basis of them scoring more tries than their opponents in the match. The visitors has no such problems as they easily dispatched another English side Harlequins 32-28. The scoreline is misleading as the Stormers had the victory all sealed up before allowing their opponents to score two late tries.
TIP: The major strength of the Chiefs has always been their forwards and their ability to keep ball possession for long periods of time. They will however be severely tested by the Stormers especially in the scrums as the visitors have an all Springbok front row. The home team have been targeted in this area all season and no doubt the visitors will see this as a potential weakness. The bookies have the Stormers as favourites but I’m backing Exeter for the upset win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 2.80, Gbets 2.75 and Hollywoodbets 2.80
HEAD TO HEAD STATS
Exeter Chiefs vs Stormers
- This is the first ever meeting between the teams.
Latest results for both teams
Exeter beat Montpellier in their previous match while the Stormers beat Harlequins 32-28 in their last match.
The battle between the two set of loose forwards will be worth the ticket price alone as the likes of Deon Fourie and Hacjivah Dayimani go head to head against internationals Sam Simmonds and Christ Tshiunza. Fourie was arguably the player of the previous round as he once again belied his age and was everywhere on the park and capped of his performance with a try. The Stormers love running the ball, led by the impressive Mannie Libbok therefore the Chiefs will need their defence to be at its best to stop the Stormers offloading game. The home team will want to pressurize the visitors as they have shown a weakness on their travels. The European experience of the Chiefs will see them sneak a win by four points.
