Six time and defending champions Toulouse welcome Ulster in their opening match of the Champions Cup. The home side have been in scintillating form as they beat Racing away from home last week in the Top 14. It is no coincidence that their form has improved after the return of the maestro Anton Dupont. Ulster are missing a few first team regulars which makes their task almost impossible. Toulouse seem to have the advantage in all areas of the game as they possess a massive pack and a deadly backline littered with international class. The visitors will need to be accurate with their kicking game as Toulouse are the best counter attackers in the game.
TIP: The home side will be looking for a fast start and will be pressuring the inexperienced Aidan Morgan at ten. The youngster has plenty of talent but has never been on this type of stage before. The obvious dangerman for the visitors is Dupont but they will be foolish to overlook the other stars in the Toulouse team. Italian superstar Ange Capuozzo can turn a game on its head if he is given any space so the Ulster defence will need to keep a close eye on him. The return of Romain Ntamack in the ten jersey is further bad news for the visitors as the pivot is capable of dictating play with both his kicking and running game. If Ulster are to make this a close contest, their forwards pack will need to find a way to at least gain parity with the home sides pack. I am predicting a Toulouse win by more than 20 points.
