Reds vs Rebels
In an all-Aussie derby, the Reds take on the Rebels in Brisbane. The home side recorded an excellent win over the Crusaders in their last match. It was their first win away in Christchurch since 1999, so they will be full of confidence. The Rebels were soundly beaten 38-11 at home by the Blues. It was not the first time this season that they fell away badly in the second half with their replacements providing little impact. Both teams are chasing a playoff position with the winner of this match almost guaranteed a quarter final berth.
TIP: The Reds looked like a different team with Fraser McReight back from his suspension as he dominated the Crusaders at the breakdown, winning numerous turnovers. The battle at the rucks could decide the match as both teams thrive with quick ball. One of the highlights of the match will be Taniela Tupou up against his old team. If the Tongan Thor can win the scrum contest, then the Rebels could spring a surprise. The bookies have the Reds as favorites and I’m also tipping them for the win. PREDICTION
All eyes will be on the Reds new superstar wing, Tim Ryan. The youngster burst on the field in his debut match against the Blues and scored a hattrick. He showed that was no fluke as he grabbed a brace of tries in the win over the Crusaders. The Rebels will need to keep a close eye on him as he is deadly if given any space. The match could well be decided in the final quarter and this is an area the Reds have the advantage. The Rebels bench is not the strongest while the home said have excellent replacements that will decide the match in their favour. I am predicting a home win by 6 points.
