In the second of the Super Rugby semi-finals the Hurricanes take on the Chiefs in an all Kiwi encounter. Both teams came through fairly easy quarter finals wins with the Hurricanes easily see off the challenge of the Rebels. The Chiefs had a potentially tricky match against the Reds but a first half blitz saw them coast to victory. The home side were boosted in the last match by the return of powerhouse hooker Asafo Aumua. They will also have Tyrell Lomax back for this match so the Chiefs will be severely tested in the front row.
TIP: Knockout rugby is almost always decided by the forwards and the Hurricanes seem to have the edge in this department. The Chiefs have been dominated by bigger packs this season but this will be a chance of redemption. The likes of Samisoni Taukei’aho will need to show the form that made him an All Black as he seems to have fallen down the pecking order in the national team. The Chiefs have an All Black laden backline with the likes of Shaun Stevenson and Emoni Narawa. Both these players have however struggled to hit the heights of last season after returning from long term injury. The main man for the visitors remain Damian McKenzie as he controls the game with his running and excellent kicking game. His opposite number Brett Cameron is more solid than spectacular but has marshalled the Hurricanes expertly all season. There are many game breakers in the home sides team so the visitors will need to be accurate with their out of hand kicking. The Hurricanes pack will see them to a 10 point win.
