Crusaders vs Blues
The six time consecutive champions Crusaders take on the Blues in the first semi-final of Super Rugby. Both teams had convincing victories in their respective quarter finals with the home team crushing the Drua while the visitors doing the same to the Waratahs.
The Crusaders have been crippled with an injury crisis this season and again lost more players in the last match. The Blues will be out for revenge for the defeat in last season’s final but they will need to be at their very best to beat the Crusaders who have never lost a playoff match on their home patch.
TIP: The Crusaders come into this match with seven first team regulars out with injury but the biggest miss will be Sam Whitelock as he is the lynchpin in their pack. For the Blues their key man in the forwards Patrick Tuipulotu is also out with a broken arm. They do however welcome back All Blacks winger Caleb Clarke for this match. The battle among the wingers looks like it could be a match decider. The bookies have the Crusaders as favourites and I’m also tipping them for the win. HEAD TO HEAD STATS
Crusaders vs Blues
- The Crusaders have won six of their last seven matches against the Blues.
- The Blues only victory against the Crusaders in the last six years was achieved at Christchurch.
Latest results for both teams
The Crusaders beat the Drua 49-8 in their last match while the Blues beat the Waratahs 41-12 in their last match.
The Crusaders are brilliant when it comes to finals rugby but this season they will be stretched to the limits with their injury crisis. The two leading try scorers in the competition, Leicester Fainga’anuku and Mark Telea go head to head in this match in what is one of many blockbuster clashes. All Blacks flyhalf duo Richie Mo’unga and Beauden Barrett will be facing each other in what could be a straight shootout for the national teams ten jersey. The Crusaders seem to have the stronger pack and the match will be decided by the forwards therefore I predict a home win by 10 points.
