Wales vs Portugal
Wales take on Portugal in this second round match in Group C of the Rugby World Cup. The Welsh scored a thrilling 32-26 victory over Fiji to open their campaign although they can consider themselves lucky as the flying Fijians had the opportunity to steal the victory at the end only for their star player Semi Radradra to knock on with a clear run in to the try line. Portugal are playing in the global showpiece for just the second time after their appearance in 2007, also in France. They are renowned for their running game while Wales will look to starve them of possession.
TIP: Wales Coach Warren Gatland has made 13 changes to the team that beat Fiji. It comes as no surprise as his team made over 200 tackles in the match. One of the survivors from the last match is wing Louis Rees Zammit and a lot will be expected from him as he will be getting a lot more ball. Portugal will need to at least parity in the scrum and lineouts if they are to be competitive in this match. The bookies have Wales as favorites and I’m also tipping them for the win. PREDICTION
Not much is known about this Portuguese team except that they love to run the ball at every opportunity. They will need to stay away from too many set pieces as the Welsh will surely have the advantage in this area. Wales will be looking to new flyhalf Gareth Anscombe to show off his brilliant attacking skill set which has become his trademark. If he can ignite his potent backline that includes Zammit and Rio Dyer then we could be in for an entertaining match. The overall experience and power game of the Welsh will be too much therefore I predict a win for the Dragons by over 40 points.
