Sharks vs Pumas
The Sharks play host to the Pumas in Durban for the second of the Currie Cup semi-finals. The home team will want to quickly forget their last outing as they were thrashed 44-5 by WP. They made 14 changes for that match and it backfired badly as the URC players that we brought in looked woefully unfit and disinterested.
The Pumas on the other hand had to beat the Griquas in their last match to qualify for the playoffs and they showed nerves of steel to overcome the Kimberley based side in their own backyard. The visitors will be out for revenge as they narrowly lost to the Sharks in the league phase of the competition.
TIP: The Sharks management have learnt their lesson from the thrashing they received in the last match by recalling the players that did duty during their seven game winning streak in the competition. The one big loss for them is Dylan Richardson who is out with an injury. The Pumas have kept pretty much the same team for the last few matches and Coach Jimmy Stonehouse will not be making too many changes to a winning combination. The bookies have the Sharks as favourites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.30, Gbets 1.31 and Hollywoodbets 1.33
HEAD TO HEAD STATS
Sharks vs Pumas
- The Pumas have only beaten the Sharks once in their last six meetings.
- The Sharks have only ever lost once at home to the Pumas.
Latest results for both teams
The Sharks were beaten 44-5 by WP in their last match while the Pumas won 27-17 against the Griquas in their last match.
One of the hallmarks of both these teams this season has been their defence which has been miserly. The Pumas however have also been excellent in attack and are the top scorers in the competition. The Sharks have not played much rugby with ball in hand but have rather kicked a lot and backed their defence. Their major attacking weapon has been their rolling maul and if the Pumas want to win this match, their maul defence will need to be fantastic. The Sharks have a super strong bench and will feel confident going into the last 20 minutes even if they are trailing the Pumas. I am predicting a Sharks win by 12 points.
