23-09-2023 Daily Predictions Rugby World Cup 2023 South Africa vs Ireland

South Africa vs Ireland

Defending champions South Africa and Ireland square of in the most anticipated match of the World Cup to date. It’s the number one ranked team against the number two team in the world on rugby’s biggest stage. The Springbok team selection has once again dominated the headlines as they have gone with a 7-1 split on the bench as they did in their win over the NZ in the warm up match. It is a high risk and high reward policy, though the Irish have not tampered with their winning formula. They have again selected their usual 5-3 split on the bench. This match will be decided in the forwards and the Boks seem to have the edge in this department.

TIP: The Springboks have resisted the temptation to call up another hooker to replace the injured Malcolm Marx and will instead rely on Deon Fourie to be the back up number two. Ireland have recalled Dan Sheehan after his injury but he will only make his comeback of the bench. The battle between the two tens, Mannie Libbok and Jonny Sexton will be one of the highlights of the match. The bookies have South Africa as favorites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.75, Gbets 1.76 and Hollywoodbets 1.74

PREDICTION

Ireland have undoubtedly been the form team in world rugby for the past two years while the Springboks have steadily been building to this tournament. The Green Machine will be looking to their talisman and Captain Sexton to steer them around the field with his excellent game management skills. The Boks pivot Libbok has been under pressure because of his goal kicking but there is no doubting his attacking ability in particular. The Boks will be targeting the Irish at scrum time in what is their only potential weakness. If Ireland can at least gain parity in the scrums then they could win the match. I am predicting the Boks power game will carry them to a 10 point win.
