24-02-2024 Daily Predictions Six Nations Championships Ireland vs Wales

Ireland vs Wales

The defending champions Ireland welcome Wales to the Aviva Stadium for this third round match in the Six Nations. The home side currently sit on top of the table with a maximum ten points while the visitors are second from the bottom after two losses. They can count themselves unlucky as those defeats were by 1 and 2 point margins. Ireland have steam rolled France away and Italy as home while keeping the latter scoreless in a 36-0 win. The home side have very few weaknesses but will miss the services of regular fullback Hugo Keenan who is out injured.

TIP: Wales boss Warren Gatland has stated that his side are going through a transitional period after a number of experienced players retired in the last 12 months. He has stuck largely with the team that narrowly lost to England with only Sam Castelow coming in at flyhalf. The ten has barely played any rugby this season and could be seen as a risk, coming up against a red hot Irish team. The bookies have Ireland as favorites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.04, Gbets 1.04 and Hollywoodbets 1.04

Ireland vs Wales

  • Ireland have won six of the last seven matches against Wales.
  • The last time Wales beat Ireland was in 2021.

Latest results for both teams

Ireland beat Italy 36-0 in their last match while Wales lost 16-14 to England in their last match.

It is hard to see anything other than a comprehensive home victory but complacency could be Irelands biggest problem. Wales will need to start better than they have in their previous two matches as playing catch up rugby to this Irish side is impossible and fraught with danger. The home side has resisted the temptation to bring in Ross Byrne in the ten jersey which suggests that Jack Crowley is the favorite for the long term. If Wales are to have any chance of causing an upset, the likes of George North and Josh Adams will need to be at their very best. I am predicting an Ireland win by 15 points.
