Scotland vs Italy
Scotland play host to the Italians at Murrayfield in the first of the World Cup warm up matches. The home side will be looking to start their preparation off with a win while Italy will be desperate to break a 13-game losing streak to the Scots. Both teams play an attacking brand of running rugby but it remains to be seen if the visitors learnt from their Six Nations campaign that they cannot run every ball from their 22m area.
They will need to find the balance between running and kicking therefore the selection of Tommy Allan at ten is a good one as he has an excellent kicking game. He will need to dictate the game with his boot.
TIP: The Italians have shown that they are still in the experimentation stage before the World Cup as they have selected a vastly different team to the one that competed in the Six Nations. There are debuts for Lorenzo Pani and Martin Page-Relo at fullback and scrumhalf respectively. The Scots will also look to select new faces in the team especially with the retirement of legendary fullback Stuart Hogg. The bookies have Scotland as favourites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.14, Gbets 1.16 and Hollywoodbets 1.15
HEAD TO HEAD STATS
Scotland vs Italy
- Scotland have won their last 13 matches against Italy.
- The last time Italy beat Scotland was in 2015.
Latest results for both teams
Scotland beat Italy 26-14 in their last match.
If the Italians are to end their 13 match losing streak against the home team, their forwards pack will need to come to the party. The Scots will be targeting the Italians at scrum time as they have an excellent front row with the likes of Willem Nel, George Turner and Pierre Schoeman. The Italians will look to slow the ball down at ruck time as the maestro Finn Russell will be pulling the strings with powerful runners like the gigantic Duhan van der Merwe and Kyle Steyn on the wings. I am predicting a Scottish win by more than 15 points.
