29-07-2023 Daily Prediction The Rugby Championship Australia vs New Zealand

Australia vs New Zealand

Australia welcomes the All Blacks to the Melbourne Cricket Stadium for this Rugby Championship match which also doubles as the first leg of the Bledisloe Cup. The home team are winless in the competition after suffering losses to the Springboks and Argentina.

The situation with NZ could not be more different, having won their opening two matches and now only needing a single point to clinch the Championship. The home team will be looking for their big name players like Samu Kerevi and Will Skelton to display the form they showed in previous seasons if they are to have any hope of an upset win.

TIP: Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones is a man under pressure as he seeks his first victory in his new role. He has responded by making wholesale changes which includes giving flyhalf Carter Gordon his first start. The All Blacks have stuck largely to the same team that won the first two matches and have resisted the temptation to bring back veteran Sam Whitelock for the match. The bookies have NZ as favourites and I’m also tipping them for the win. The best odds on this bet are as follows: Betway 1.12, Gbets 1.13 and Hollywoodbets 1.12

HEAD TO HEAD STATS

Australia vs New Zealand

  • NZ have won the last five matches against the Wallabies.
  • The last time Australia beat NZ was in 2020.

Latest results for both teams

Australia lost 34-31 to Argentina in their last match while NZ beat the Springboks 35-20 in their last match.

PREDICTION

The Wallabies have not beaten the All Blacks since 2020 and it will take a brave man to back the beleaguered home team. The visitors have looked their ruthless and clinical selves this season and have shown their intentions by selecting their strongest team, three matches in a row. The Aussies will need to cut out their handling errors as the All Blacks are brilliant on counter attack. There are many high profile match ups but none more so Skelton against the experience locking pair of Scott Barrett and Brodie Retallick. If the Aussie giant can disrupt their ball at lineout time, they have a chance as the majority of the All Blacks tries come from this source. I am predicting an away win by 10 points.
