Crusaders vs Chiefs Background
In seasons gone by this match was one of the drawcard matches in Super Rugby but unfortunately the Chiefs are on a horror run that has seen them lose 9 matches on the trot. Crusaders on the other hand have been champions for the past 3 years. Chiefs looked good last week against the Highlanders and had a healthy lead at halftime but they imploded in the second half as a Jona Nareki inspired Highlanders destroyed them in the second half. Crusaders showed their class last week as they brushed aside the Hurricanes with utmost ease. For the Chiefs to have any chance they need their big name players like Damian Mckenzie and All Blacks skipper Sam Cane to stand up. Bryn Gatland was a flop at flyhalf and there is talk of Mckenzie moving into flyhalf position which should help with their attacking plays. The Crusaders have attacking threats all-round the park and the Chiefs defense can’t afford to take a step back. The Chiefs desperation to end their losing streak should see them fired up and hopefully this energy shows on the field.
TIP: Crusaders at home are almost unbeatable and have lost just once in the last 23 games at home. I can’t see anything other than a Crusaders victory but the Chiefs will fight them tooth and nail so I don’t expect a massive victory for the Crusaders. The victory margin will be less than 15 points and Supabets and Sunbet has the Chiefs at 1.90 on the handicap (+15.5). The sheer desperation of the Chiefs should see this match being a close affair.
HEAD TO HEAD STATS
Crusaders vs Chiefs
- In the last 5 matches there has been just 1 Chiefs victory.
- The last match between these two teams saw the Crusaders run out 32-19 winners.
- The last time the Chiefs beat the Crusaders at home was in 2016, since then they have lost 5 straight games to the Crusaders.
Latest results for both teams
The Crusaders won their last match against the Hurricanes 33-16 while the Chiefs lost at home to the Highlanders 23-39
The Crusaders have an electric backline but the platform is laid by the superb forwards pack and this is where the Chiefs will need their All Blacks like Sam Cane, Luke Jacobsen and Lachlan Boshier to man up. There should be plenty of tries in this one as both teams love to run the ball so expect a Crusaders victory but not a landslide victory as I feel the hunger of the Chiefs players will make this match a close one.

The Crusaders will win but there isn’t enough meat on the bone for the win at 1.11 both at Sunbet and Supabets so the best odds for the Chiefs on the handicap (+15.5) are as follows:
The best odds on the Chiefs handicap ( +15.5) are at Supabets and Sunbet at 1.90 while Betway on the same handicap has them at 1.76
Predictions and Odds in details
I don’t think there is too much doubt over who is going to win this match; it is all about the margin of victory. If Damian McKenzie is moved to flyhalf it will re- unite the half back pairing with All Black Brad Weber that was so electric and fruitful for Waikato. The Chiefs pride should see them in the game for long periods but eventually the champion Crusaders will pull away to victory. My best suggestion is the Chiefs handicap (+15.5) at Sunbet 1.90 and Supabets 1.90. 1XBet has them on the same handicap at 1.83
