03/7: Daily Predictions: USA face Trinidad and Tobago in the last Gold Cup Group Game

Football Predictions

USA will be taking on Trinidad and Tobago in their last group game with both teams looking to book a quarterfinal berth in the Gold Cup.

The Americans clobbered Saint Kitts and Nevis 6-0 in their last game to move to the top of their group with Trinidad going down 4-1 to Jamaica. After opening the tournament with a draw against the Reggae Boyz, USA has four points from their two games the same as Jamaica with Trinidad on 3 points. Saint Kitts are yet to record any point and are alreadydy out of the competition but the chance to make it to the next round makes this fixture an interesting one with Kamaica expected to run over Saint Kitts.

H2H/Stats

The two countries have met six times before, with the US winning four times and drawing once. The lone win that Trinidad and Tobago stands as the infamous 2-1 triumph in their home soil in November of 2017 that prevented the USMNT from getting on the plane to Russia for the 2018 World Cup. Since that defeat, the US has beaten the Soca Warriors by an aggregate score of 13-0 in two games played in 2019 and 2021.

Team News

Interim head coach Callaghan chose to rotate his squad against St. Kitts and Nevis but is expected to go for a more straightforward lineup for this game. Jalen Neal might be called again as he’s impressed, allowing defenders Miles Robinson (hamstring) and Aaron Long (head) to continue recovering from slight injuries.

Up front, Jordan Morris experienced some knee irritation following the draw against Jamaica and didn’t feature St. Kitts and Nevis, but was on the bench. While it’s always good to have options to choose from, Callaghan should feel confident with his options at striker with the in-form Jesus Ferreira and Brandon Vazquez.

Trinidad had four changes to their starting 11 from matchday one to two, with Shannon Gomez, Aubrey David, Ajani Fortune and Malcolm Shaw coming into the lineup in place of Triston Hodge, Ryan Telfer, Kevin Molino and Kaile Auvray.

Coach Eve Angus revealed that defender Tristan Hodge was unable to start against Jamaica due to a light hamstring injury, while forward Kaile Auvray had a minor knock that saw him feature off the bench.

Probable Line Ups

USA XI: Slonina; Yedlin, Robinson, Neal, Tolkin; Mihailovic, Roldan, Sonora; Vazquez; J. Morris, Cowell

Trinidad and Tobago XI: Frenderup; A. Jones, Bateau, Moses, Hodge, Archer; Molino, Rampersad, Hackshaw, J. Jones; Garcia

Anytime GoalScorer

Jesus Ferreira

Ferreira moved into the scoring lead at this competition, becoming the first American to have multiple hat-tricks in competitive matches since Clint Dempsey. He will feel confident heading into this game as he works to increase his tally with the national team and with the support around him, he is one of the favorites to be on the scoresheet.

Verdict

USA has an impeccable record against their Monday reports and there is no reason why the dominance over Trinidad shouldn’t continue. This is enticed by the fact that the winner of the tie will be making it to the quarterfinals of the competition so it’s a perfect opportunity to boost their chances of winning the country another silverware.
