15/03/2023: Daily Predictions: UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid vs Liverpool

In a repeat of the 2022 Champions League final, Real Madrid host Liverpool at the Santiago Bernabeu in a Champions League last 16 second leg clash. Liverpool face an uphill climb after the first leg was won 5-2 by Madrid.

Team Form

Madrid do not look likely to retain their Spanish top-flight crown. They trail arch-rivals Barcelona in La Liga by nine points. Madrid have lacked that killer instinct this season as they have won just one out of their last four games in all competitions.

Like Madrid, Liverpool have also lacked a killer instinct this season. Jurgen Klopp’s side trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by 24 points. The Reds have won two out of their last three games but lost their last game 1-0 against Bournemouth.

Head To Head

Madrid won the first leg 5-2 and have a 5-2 aggregate advantage for this clash.

Madrid are unbeaten against Liverpool in seven games, having won six.

Liverpool last beat Madrid in a 4-0 win back in March 2009.

Latest Real Madrid results

Madrid’s last game was a 3-1 win over Espanyol.

Madrid have won one out of their last four games in all competitions.

Madrid’s last defeat was when arch-rivals Barcelona beat them 1-0 in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu two weeks ago.

Latest Liverpool results

Liverpool’s last game was a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Liverpool have won two out of their last three games.

Liverpool have scored nine goals in their last four games, conceding once.

Prediction

Liverpool will deliver an improved performance in this game and fight hard. Klopp’s side have no choice but to commit more men forward to try and score goals. In the end, I expect the stubborn Madrid defence to hold firm and securre their passage to the next stage of the competition comfortably.

I expect the game to end in a 1-1 draw.

Both teams to score-yes. Playabets have this bet at 1.47

Anytime Goal Scorers

Real Madrid- Vinicius Junior- The Brazil international is on top of his game and will punish any sloppy errors from the Liverpool defence, of which there have been several this season. He has scored six Champions League goals so far this season.

Betway have him at 3.20 to score.

Liverpool- Mohamed Salah- This has not been his best season but he still has the game intelligence and awareness to score important goals for the Reds.

Betway have him at 2.85 to score.
