23/03/2023: Daily Predictions: Euro Qualifying: Italy vs England

In a repeat of the Euro 2020 final, Italy clash against England in a Euro 2024 Group C clash. Both teams will be especially keen to get their qualification campaigns of to a good start. England come off their quarter-final finish at the World Cup while Italy come off their failure to qualify for the last World Cup.

Form Guide

England’s last game was their defeat against France in the quarter-final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Apart from the 2-1 loss to Les Bleus, Gareth Southgate’s men have been in good form and have won two out of their last three games.

England are now a well-balanced side and will be looking to build a side that is capable of winning the next European Championships. Gone are the days when Southgate can speak about “building for the future”.

Italy meanwhile have been in a rebuilding phase and lost their last game 2-0 to Austria. However, Roberto Mancini’s men have won three out of their last four games. This game could prove how far the Azzuri have come in their bid to rebuild themselves into a giant of world football.

Head To Head

The teams last met back in September 2022 in a Nations League clash. Italy won 1-0.

England have not beaten Italy in six previous games.

England last beat Italy in a 2-1 friendly international win back in August 2012.

It will be a tough game between the defensive minded Italians and the attack-minded English. I expect a game contained in midfield and it will end in a 1-1 draw.

Anytime Goal Scorers

England- Harry Kane- The Tottenham striker is fast, confident and in form. He is going to pose a serious issue to the opposition when he gets the ball in advanced areas.

Betway have him at 2.75 to score.

Italy- Jorginho- There is a good chance that if Italy do score, their goal could well come from a set-piece. If that happens, the Brazilian born player is well likely to score.

Betway have him at 6.60 to score.
