The Cheetahs welcome the Force to Bloemfontein for the second match of the Toyota Challenge Series. The home team entered the first leg as heavy favourites and raced into a 14 point lead but an incredible fightback from the men from Perth almost snatched an unlikely victory before losing 31-27.
It was an excellent showing from the Force team as they had five Academy player and a number of age group players in the team. The Cheetahs will be disappointed that the only tries they managed to score was through the rolling maul as their attack looked toothless in open play.
TIP: The Force will likely go into this match with the same personnel that played so well last time out. Their biggest area of concern will be their maul defence as they conceded four tries from the lineouts. The Cheetahs will want more cohesion in attack as poor handling frustrated the home team. They may look at bringing in David Brits into the midfield as he was very powerful when he came of the bench. The bookies have the Cheetahs as favourites but I’m tipping the Force for the upset win. The Force were superb in attack and were led by their flyhalf Max Burey who controlled the game expertly. There was also an outstanding debut by Englishman Harry Potter who was electric, every time he touched the ball. The Cheetahs will look to spread the ball out to their wings as Cohen Jasper and Litha Nkula hardly got the ball in any space. The visitors will need to find a way to defend the maul or else they will be chasing shadows again. The home team were outshone in attack and will need to stop Burey from launching his dangerous backline. I predict an away win by 6 points.
