Are you ready for the Ligue 1 2024/25 Outright Predictions?
18 August 2024 is the start date for the French Ligue 1 2024/25 season. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain will take a trip to Le Havre. These are our predictions for the outright winner, top two finish, top four finish, relegation candidates and top goalscorer.
Ligue 1 2024/25 Outright: 2024/25 Winner
1. Paris Saint-Germain
Is there another choice? Paris Saint-Germain have held sway over all of France for almost two decades now thanks to the Qatar Sports Group’s investment. Every year, they strengthen their side with impressive signings by outbidding the giants of football in other top five leagues. Every year, also, they select Ligue 1 cubs for their best players thanks to the financial gap between them and the rest of the league.
Only once in the last ten years have they been challenged and beaten to the title. These odds are not favourable, however, they present a big opportunity for the risky bettors. The biggest news coming out of the club is the loss of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid.
The French Prince is now at his dream club after carrying the club on his back for seven years, supported by an incredible team that once had Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Angel Di Maria, and Marco Verratti among others. Whoever they sign to replace Mbappé may not bring the same quality that the 2018 Kopa Trophy winner added to the side, but it means that other players will now be able to shine on the stage that he once hogged for himself.
The gap between them and whoever ends up in second may not be as huge this time around, but common sense, numbers, statistics and patterns prove that the Parisians are the best bet to win the 2024/25 French Ligue 1 title – their 11th title in 14 years. The best odds on PSG being crowned champions can be found at 1.20
Ligue 1 2024/25 Outright: Top two finish
- Paris Saint-Germain
- Olympique de Marseille
PSG without Mbappé is much like Barcelona without Messi – a toothless bulldog. They are a bulldog, nonetheless, which means they are still scary to deal with. They have a title winner in Luis Enriqué as well as a plethora of talent that can deliver trophies to them.
However, the refreshing football of Roberto De Zerbi is one that they will be worried about, with the Italian coming to take over at Marseille, who were very bright in the second half of last season.
Ligue 1 2024/25 Outright: Top four finish
- Paris Saint-Germain
- Olympique de Marseille
- AS Monaco
- LOSC Lille
PSG might have run away with the league last season but the rest of the league was very even, with not more than four points separating each team from the other across the table.
The competition was hot among the big names and Brest, the outlier who came from nowhere to claim a place in the top four. We expect them to fizzle out like Newcastle United of England while the big names continue their dominance and battle for the top four.
Ligue 1 2024/25 Outright: Relegation
It is always smartest to bet on the relegation of promoted teams. This is because they take a while to acclimatise to the rigours of top-flight football. This is even more true if they have been away from it for a while. In the case of Angers and Le Havre, our outright picks, we base our decision on the patterns that occurred in past years.
Le Havre were lucky to escape the drop last season and Angers have been financially crippled for a while, which has affected their transfer business.
- Angers
- Le Havre
Ligue 1 2024/25 Outright: Top scorer
Alexandre Lacazette
Alexandre Lacazette has been chasing after Mbappé since he returned to his boyhood club, Olympique Lyonnais, from Arsenal in the 2022/23 season. That year, he bagged 27 goals as Mbappé bagged 29 and in the 2023/24 season, he bagged 19 while Mbappé bagged 27. In both seasons, they finished in first and second place.
With Mbappé now at his dream club Real Madrid, the hometown hero will have free reign over the French top scorers’ charts with only Jonathan David to worry him.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could have been a huge threat, but the Gabon international is on his way to Saudi Arabia. PSG look set to sign Victor Osimhen, however, but pending the outcome of that move, the former Arsenal man remains the odds-on favourite for the Ligue 1 2024/25 top scorer award according to bookmakers.
