Harlequins vs Gloucester

Tip 1: Harlequins to win 

Reason for the tip: A struggling Quins team welcomes Gloucester to the Stoop, hoping to end their horror run of four straight defeats. The home side have all but ended their playoff chances after losing their last three league games. A run that also saw them being knocked out of the Champions Cup by Leinster. The visitors on the other hand are very much in playoff contention and lie just a point off the top four position. They will however have to improve their away form as they have lost their last three matches on the road. 

Gloucester have been playing an exciting brand of rugby that was normally associated with their opponents in this match. Harlequins have looked a shadow of the team that was on fire earlier in the season. Much of their problems lie in the fact that their talisman, Marcus Smith has not been in the best of form. If both teams play to their capabilities we would be in for one of the most exciting of matches. I am tipping Harlequins to end their win drought due the poor away form of the visitors.

Western Force vs Brumbies 

Tip 2: Force to win   

Reason for the tip: The Force play host to the Brumbies in this Aussie derby. The home side are desperately seeking a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They will be delighted to be back in Perth as they have only lost once on their home patch while their away record has been dismal. The Brumbies on the other hand have all but secured their playoff spot but are pushing for a home tie in the knockout rounds. They will be out for revenge after the Force beat them in their own backyard in the reverse fixture. 

The Force will be banking on the form of their brilliant flanker Carlo Tizzano who is the leading try scorer in the competition. He has been unstoppable close to the try line but he will need to be at his defensive best to stop Rob Valentini.Both teams have looked at their best when they adopt a ball in hand approach so we can expect plenty of running rugby. Ben Donaldson has been superb for the Force and will again be expected to guide his team around the park. I am tipping the Force for the upset win. 

Benetton vs Glasgow Warriors

Tip 3: Benetton to win 

Reason for the tip: Playoff chasing Benetton welcomes Glasgow to Treviso in this crucial URC encounter. The home side are just a point outside the playoff positions but need a win to keep their title aspirations alive. They will have their work cut out against the defending champions who welcome back a number of their injury ravaged stars none more so the recently named B&I Lion Huw Jones. The outside centre adds a new dimension to the Warriors attack. His duel with opposite number Tommaso Menoncello promises to be one of the highlights of the match. 

Benetton have struggled to win on the road but their home record is excellent. They have only lost twice all season at home and have won their last six matches in Treviso. Glasgow have not shown the form that took them to the title last season as they have been severely depleted by injuries to key personnel. I am tipping Benetton to continue with their winning run at home and beat the champions in a tight affair. 

Handicap Betting Tips For Today

Leinster vs Zebre: Home team (-30.5)

Reason for tip: Leinster will be looking to bounce back from their shock Champions Cup exit when they take on Zebre. The Italian side must be prepared for a backlash from the Irish giants who have selected their strongest possible team for the match.Jordie Barrett comes into the starting XV at the expense of Robbie Henshaw which will strengthen the home side in attack and defence. Zebre have looked good in their last few matches but things don’t look good for them against an angry Leinster team. I am tipping the home side to win and cover the -30.5 handicap. 

Connacht vs Edinburgh: Away team (+7.5)

Reason for tip: Connacht will be playing for pride when Edinburgh come to town for this URC encounter. The home side are out of contention for a playoff position after they lost their last four matches. The visitors on the other hand have everything to play for as they are just four points away from the top eight. They will fancy their chances against a Connacht side although the inclusion of Bundee Aki will strengthen the hosts. 

The home side have played an attractive brand of rugby and have no problems scoring but their defence has been their Achilles Heel. They will need to be at their best defensively with the likes of Darcy Graham in the Edinburgh team. The flying winger will have a point to prove after he was surprisingly overlooked for the British and Irish Lions. The match could go either way but I am tipping Edinburgh to cover the +7.5 handicap.

Stormers vs Dragons: Home team (-31.5)

Reason for tip: The Stormers will be looking for a bonus point win when they welcome the Dragons to the Cape Town Stadium. The home side will need the five points to keep their playoff chances alive. They are currently in seventh place but are just two points ahead of the chasing pack of three teams. The visitors have endured a torrid season and are currently bottom of the table with just one win from their 16 matches. 

They will need to improve their defence otherwise they could potentially face a cricket score against a Stormers team whose attack has started to click. They were superb in attack led by the irrepressible Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. It is still early days for the young man but he looks like he could become one of the best tens in world rugby. I am backing the Stormers to win and cover the -31.5 handicap.
