Tip 1: Chiefs to win
Reason for the tip: The Exeter Chiefs will be hoping that Rob Baxter returning to the head coach’s role will see them get a win when they take on the Northampton Saints at Sandy Park. The home side were embarrassed 79-17 by Gloucester in their last match which resulted in some management members losing their jobs. The visitors on the other hand caused one of the biggest upsets in Champions Cup history when they beat Leinster in their own backyard. Most of the heroes of that match are however rested for this encounter.
Exeter have experienced their worst league campaign in many years while the Saints have relinquished their title without making the playoffs. Both teams have nothing but pride to play for so we can expect plenty of tries in what is effectively a dead rubber. One player that the visitors will need to keep a close eye on is winger Paul Brown-Bampoe. The youngster has played just a handful of games but looks to be deadly when given any space. I am backing the home side to win as the Saints have a new look side for this match.
Black Rams vs Honda Heat
Tip 2: Black Rams to win
Reason for the tip: Two teams that have nothing left to play for meet when the Honda Heat travel to take on the Black Rams. The visitors have already had their relegation confirmed while the home team are safe from relegation but are out of the playoff places. Both teams have struggled in attack and defence with the Heat conceding an incredible 345 points in their eight away matches at an average of over 40 points per game. They will need to improve their defence if they are to cause an upset.
Honda Heat will be hoping for more of an impact from their big name players like Tevita Tupou and Wallaby Tom Banks. They can be free and express themselves while the Black Rams will want to give their fans something to shout about in their last home match of a disappointing season. They will need former All Black scrum half TJ Perenara to get the best out of their backline. I am backing the home side for the win.
Handicap Betting Tips For Today
Lions vs Scarlets – Away team (+6.5)
Reason for tip: The Lions are looking to keep their slim chances of making the playoffs when they welcome Scarlets to Emirates Park. The home side are currently 10 points outside the top eight and will need to win their remaining two matches with a bonus point plus hope other results go their way. Scarlets dont have such problems as a win will take them into the top eight while a bonus point win could see them move into the top six.
The Lions were excellent in their last match against Connacht with their defence in particular being brilliant. If the visitors are to breach the home side’s defence they will need the likes of Blair Murray and Tom Rogers to get as much of the ball in open spaces. The scrum is an area the Lions will have an advantage but it depends how they will make use of it. I am backing the Scarlets to cover the +6.5 handicap.
Montpellier vs Bordeaux: Home Team (-8.5)
Reason for tip: Montpellier will be going all out for a bonus point win when they play host to Bordeaux in this Top 14 encounter. The home side are currently five points outside the top six and will be thankful to their visitors who have selected an under strength team for the match. Bordeaux have rested a number of first team regulars following their heroics last week when they knocked Toulouse out of the Champions Cup.
Montpellier will be looking to their international stars like Cobus Reinach and Stuart Hogg to get them over the line against the Champions Cup finalists. The visitors despite making a number of changes still have plenty of firepower. Joey Carbery has big shoes to fill in the absence of Mathieu Jalibert but the former Irish international has the class to do the job. I am tipping
