Race 1
Tip: SHE’S A MACHINE EW @ 8/1✅ EW PLACE
Reason: The filly comes into this race of a competitive MR and despite a wide draw, she is a lively threat in the opener. If not too far behind at the 400m, she will be mowing the frontrunners down and can get the day going with some EW returns.
Race 2
Tip: BEVIES DELIGHT EW @ 6/1❌
Reason: Despite a hefty mass the talented mare has good form and gets a top jockey booking. She has an unbeaten course and distance record and has won her two previous starts on the Turf. She can get us going strong in the Bipot and is a strong selection from our team.
Race 3
Tip: LITIGATION EW @ 9/1 VOID-SCRATCHED
Reason: After a break LITIGATION ran a cracker in the Cup Trial last time and will live the rise to the 2200m. He should strip much fitter now and the booking of Gavin Lerena is a massive plus. At 9/1 in the betting, he represents the EW value in this competitive race.
Race 4
Tip: KING PELLES EW @ 5/1✅ EW WIN
Reason: The Cape raider won the Grade 3 Derby in impressive fashion and is the leading contender in this race. He will have been prepped for this race and with Bling in the saddle, the combination should find themselves in the money.
Race 5
Tip: QUICKSTEPGAL EW @ 5/1✅ EW PLACE
Reason: The talented filly is developing into a top racehorse. She has won three in a row and despite taking on stronger here, she is a massive threat. The Golden Slipper is one of the best races on the day, and I expect the filly to be a threat at the finish.
Race 6
Tip: CHARMING CHEETAH EW @ 9/1❌
Reason: This is another competitive race, and we are in the camp of CHARMING CHEETAH. Purely based on the odds, the gelding is overpriced, and if the two year old settles in running, he can cause the upset at a generous price.
Race 7 (Durban July)
Tip: ROYAL VICTORY EW @ 25/1✅ EW PLACE
Reason: The big race on the day, the 2025 Hollywoodbets Durban July! All the fanfare is on hot favourite EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN and on form and weights, he should take a power of beating. However, at 14/10 in the betting, we don’t advise anyone plowing into that shallow price.
Local horse ROYAL VICTORY will have his fans on Saturday and at 25/1 in the betting represents the value in the race. The talented gelding is better on the wide Turffontein straight, and despite a horrible draw of 17, we believe he will be mowing them down at the finish. Due to the wide draw, he may not win but he should run into the money, so back him to finish in the top 5 or 6 at your bookies.
Race 8
Tip: VJ’S ANGEL EW @ 25/1❌
Reason: The filly has lost her juvenile form hence the massive price. However, despite a wide draw, she is still a talented filly and if she can rediscover her earlier form she could sneak into the money. Have a small EW bet and let’s hope for the best.
Race 9
Tip: I AM GIANT EW @ 40/1✅ EW WIN
Reason: We are looking at the bottom of the betting card for this race and found a massive outsider at 40/1 in I AM GIANT. The gelding produced a decent first run for his new trainer and should come on from that effort. If he bounces off at the gate, he can hold on to sneak into the money.
Race 10
Tip: OXALIS GOLD EW @ 14/1❌
Reason: The filly is taking on her male rivals and gets a wide draw. She has it all to do, but thanks to the 1.5kgs sex allowance, she comes in as a lively runner. If she finds luck in running, she should be a threat at the finish.
Race 11
Tip: ZANTHAR EW @ 9/1❌
Reason: The youngster is taking on older horses but comes in with a handy mass of 57 kgs. He also gets a nice draw and the formlines of his previous runs have been franked. We expect a big run here so have a nice EW bet.
Race 12
Tip: ISIKWISHIKWISHI EW @ 10/1✅ EW PLACE
Reason: Generally when it comes to the last race of the card for any Durban July event it is the get out stakes for many. I found some value in the Hollywoodbets runner ISIKWISHIKWISHI. The gelding is back on the poly where he is at his best and gets a nice draw and is having his peak run. At double digit odds, he can run a true race and close the card for us with some nice EW returns.
