Turffontein Selections
Race 1 – 1160m (Maiden Juvenile Plate)
Opening the card is an interesting race, and I would not be shocked if an unraced runner wins. However, I will take my chances with Chilli Bomb. He was well beaten in his last start against winners, but now back in maiden company, he should be the horse to beat.
Suggested Bet – Chilli Bomb to win @ 3/1❌
Race 2 – 1000m (Juvenile Plate)
Almond Sea is a special filly, and I expect her to bounce back from her poor performance in her previous Grade 2 race. She returns from a 14-week break; if fit, she should be too good for her male rivals.
Suggested Bet – Almond Sea to win @ 11/10✅
Race 3 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)
Hey Hey Julia produced a good run against winners in her last start and is weighted to win here. With 55.5kgs on her back, she is a top contender to shed her maiden tag.
Suggested Bet – Hey Hey Julia to win @ 32/10❌
Race 4 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)
Lets Play Poker produced two good seconds and then ran a shocker last time out. You can ignore that run, as he did not enjoy running with blinkers. The blinkers are off now and he can return to top form. He won’t be a maiden for too long and meets the right field to notch his first win.
Suggested Bet – Lets Play Poker to win @ 25/10❌
Race 5 – 1600m (Novice Handicap)
Officer In Command was unlucky in his last start as the saddle slipped. Prior to that race, he had fair form and loves this course and distance. In six races, he has finished in the top three in four starts. It is encouraging that Muzi Yeni is on board, and the combination can run into the money.
Suggested Bet – Officer In Command EW @ 9/1❌

Race 6 – 1600m (FM 76 Handicap)
Quiet Rebellion has been slow out of the gates in her last two starts but stayed on at the finish. Those tardy starts have cost her, and if she can get away better, she will be a lively contender. She has one win and one third from three races over course and distance and should run well once again.
Suggested Bet – Quiet Rebellion EW @ 5/1❌
Race 7 – 1160m (Middle Stakes)
I am taking a chance with a big odds horse in this featured Middle Stakes race. It is a competitive race, so you should go wide in the exotics. Rollwiththepunches has lost his best form and is struggling. However, he was once an MR 112 and has now dropped to an MR 96. He had been rested for four months and needed his last start. He is a very speedy horse and gets off the block fast. If he can strip fitter, he could provide an upset here. I hope he can show some glimpses of his best, and if he shows that form, he will win.
Suggested Bet – Rollwiththepunches EW @ 40/1❌
Race 8 – 1160m (MR 80 Handicap)
It is a speculative punt from me here with Lulu’s Boy to turn around his form. His last start was good, and Chocolate Solider came out and won again. The seven-year-old is speedy and should be at the front with 500m to go. With 56.5kgs, he could hang on for the back end of trifectas and return some place money.
Suggested Bet – Lulu’s Boy EW @ 16/1❌
Race 9 – 1160m (MR 66 Handicap)
I found some value in the lucky last with Samthewiseman. He gets the services of Rachel Venniker, and she takes off 1.5kgs. He is running with 52kgs, and the four-year-old can compete off that low mass. The gelding has okay form, and with some luck in running, he should fight out the finish.
Suggested Bet – Samthewiseman EW @ 10/1❌
