Saturday’s horse racing action is available from Gauteng, with a nine-race program from the Turffontein Standside track. Racing begins at 12:20 and includes a featured Pinnacle Stakes event in Race 8. Below are our South African horse racing tips, predictions and suggested bets for the day’s racing. Turffontein Selections
Race 1 – 1160m (Juvenile Plate)
TOWERS OF GOLD has finished third in both starts and has plenty of scope. The two-year-old carries 57kgs and can be competitive off that weight. With some luck in running, he should finish in the money.

Race 2 – 1160m (Juvenile Plate)
I like QUEEN OF FIRE to run well here, and she gets the appie claim. Carrying 54kgs, she is weighted to go close. She has decent form, and her last run has been franked with two subsequent wins. She represents the EW value in this race, and I expect her to contest the finish.

Race 3 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)
BELLISSIVAR has fair form and is my pick to finally shed her maiden. She always tries her best and was just pipped at the line last time. With better luck, she should notch her first win and exit the maidens.

Race 4 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)
There is no value with the two short-priced favourites, so I searched for a better odds horse. I found KING HARRY, who is at 7/1 in the betting. He is having his second run after a rest and can be competitive. He will need to improve a lot to beat the favourites, but he can sneak a place.

Race 5 – 1000m (MR 96 Handicap)
I am taking a chance with a big odds horse in this competitive sprint race. ROLLWITHTHEPUNCHES has lost his best form and is struggling. However, he was once an MR 112 and has now dropped to an MR 92. He had been rested for four months and needed his last two starts. He is a very speedy horse and gets off the block fast. If he can strip fitter, he could provide an upset here.

Race 6 – 1000m (MR 80 Handicap)
LOVEGRASS is a good filly with plenty of ability and scope. She has two wins and a second from three runs and can produce again in this field. She carries 60.5kgs, but with some luck in running, I expect her to finish in the top three.

Race 7 – 1100m (Conditional Plate)
TIME FO ORCHIDS is the class horse in this field, and she is a worthy favourite. She has top form and has been phenomenal in the Highveld. Surprisingly, she opened at 4/1 in the betting, and I expect that she will drop to around 15/10 come race time.

Race 8 – 1400m (Pinnacle Stakes)
The featured race of the card and MAIN DEFENDER is a banker for most in all exotics. He will take a power of beating and should be too good for this field. However, at 55/100, he represents no value for a single bet. So I went searching for EW value and found UNZEN. The four-year-old has good form and always runs well. With some luck in running, he can fill out the exacta with MAIN DEFENDER.

Race 9 – 1600m (MR 80 Handicap)
The lucky last and our last chance to make some money ahead of the big Gold Cup meeting on Sunday. I am in the camp of CELTIC RUSH who is weighted to run well. He has fair form and can win for the fifth time in his career. The form of his last run is exceptional, with two wins and three seconds coming from those runners. I love his EW value, and I predict he will finish in the top three.
