Race 1 – 1200m (Maiden Plate)

It is a tough race to start proceedings on Sprint Day, but we are in the camp of Littleblackgem. The two-year-old filly has fair form after two runs, and with Rachel Venniker taking off 1.5kgs, she should be competitive in the opener.

Suggested Bet – Littleblackgem EW @ 7/1

Race 2 – 1400m (Maiden Plate)

Burning Man needed his first run in KZN and will be better now that he has settled in new surroundings. With a handy weight of 56kgs and with Richard Fourie on board, Burning Man is a lively contender.

Suggested Bet – Burning Man EW @ 6/1

Race 3 – 1400m (MR 76 Handicap)

Lake Como ran well in this class in his last start; he is a seasoned runner who always tries his best. He has a handy weight; all four wins have come over this trip. He can run into the money from a good draw and low weight.

Suggested Bet – Lake Como EW @ 14/1

Race 4 – 2400m (Middle Stakes)

Ballroom Bliss has had decent form since she started running in KZN. Her last start in a listed event was encouraging, and if she can reproduce that form, she is a lively runner in this field. She is getting up in the years but still is a class horse, and as they say, class is permanent.

Suggested Bet – Ballroom Bliss EW @ 10/1

Race 5 – 1200m (Grade 1)

Just Reckless is turning out to be a quality racehorse, and the 2-year-old filly has a decent record. After six runs, Just Reckless has three wins and three seconds and is still progressive, so there should be more to come. She should have no trouble with the 1200m and is expected to run into the money.

Suggested Bet – Just Reckless EW @ 6.5/1

Race 6 – 1200m (Grade 1)

After three impressive performances, where he won going away and easily, Pistol Pete overraced in his last start. He was caught late in that run, and if his jockey can restrain him in the early stages, he should run well again. He is a class racehorse and should again find the winner’s enclosure.

Suggested Bet – Pistol Pete EW @ 5.5/1

Race 7 – 1200m (Grade 1)

Caution is advised here as this is a very competitive Grade 1. You must load up in this race if you are playing any exotics. We are in the camp of Time Fo Orchids, who has turned into an above-average filly. She had four wins in a row in handicap races before running an impressive second in her last start, a Grade 2. Now, in Grade 1 company, against some of the best fillies and mares in the country, she should run well, and with five places on offer, she is a standout EW bet.

Suggested Bet – Time For Orchids EW @ 12/1EW Place

Race 8 – 1200m (Grade 1)

Another competitive Grade 1, with plenty of winning chances, so load up in the exotics. Our top choice is Surjay, who is better weighed than the two favourites, Lucky Lad and Dyce. He finished third in this race last year and can run again into the money from a good draw of 3.

Suggested Bet – Surjay EW @ 8.5/1

Race 9 – 1750m (FM 85 Handicap)

It is time for the lucky last of the day, and we searched for some value. After some form studying and watching the tapes, we are in the camp of three-year-old filly Mountainsofthemoon. She produced a fair run in a listed event and back in handicap company, she represents excellent value. She gets the services of Smanga Khumalo and he may get the best out of her at the finish.

Suggested Bet – Mountainsofthemoon EW @ 12/1 Void – Scratched
