Sunday’s horse racing action is available from KZN, with an eight-race program from the Scottsville Turf track. Racing begins at 12:35 and includes a competitive Conditional Graduation Plate event in Race 4. Below are our South African horse racing tips, predictions and suggested bets for the day’s racing. Scottsville Selections
Race 1 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)
I think there is some value in LIGHTINTHEDARKNESS in the opener. You can ignore her last start, as she was reported not to be striding out. She is back down in trip and racing over 1000m, and with the blinkers fitted, she can run well. A small EW bet to start the day’s racing.

Race 2 – 1600m (Maiden Plate)
JET LAVISH’S last two starts have been good, and she was lucky not to win last time. She steps up to the mile now, and if she sees out the extra 200m, she can finish in the placings.

Race 3 – 1600m (FM 82 Handicap)
It is a competitive race, but I think the value lies with the mare, QUANTUM. The five-year-old finished a close second to the progressive MASCHERINA in a listed event last time. She will have come on from that run, and with top jockey Muzi Yeni in the saddle, she is a lively contender in this field. She has good form over course and distance, with a win and two seconds in five starts. A worry is her wide draw, but with some luck in running, I expect her to finish in the money and give us some EW returns.

Race 4 – 1500m (Conditional Graduation Plate)
KITCHAKAL ran a cracker last time out in new surroundings. He will come on from that run and should strip fitter. Rachel Venniker takes 1.5kgs off and carded to run with 58.5kgs; the gelding can go close.

ALL THE TIME has good form and won well in this class in his last start. That form line has been franked, and despite carrying 60kgs, he has the form to win again.

Race 6 – 1400m (MR 82 Handicap)
UNITED NATION is an interesting runner in this competitive race. The three-year-old could be progressive and can run well in handicap company. You can ignore his run in his Grade 1 start, as he was not striding out. If he is progressive and ahead of the handicapper, he is a dark horse at big odds.

Race 7 – 1200m (MR 68 Handicap)
This is a weak-rated MR 68 handicap race, so you must go wide in the exotics. I don’t have any strong fancies, but I will take a chance on HAPPY WANDERER to run well. I backed him EW at 40/1 in his last start, and he finished third to give us some EW returns. Once again, he is carrying a light mass, and if he confirms that run, he can run into the money, albeit at a lower price.

Race 8 – 1200m (FM 70 Handicap)
EMERALD GREEN has run two good races in her last two starts under jockey Chase Maujean. The pair can once again run well and, this time, hopefully win. Since winning her maiden, she has run into the money in 5 of 7 races. With some luck in running, she can give us some EW returns to close the weekend.
