Sunday’s horse racing action is available from KZN, with an eight-race program from the Scottsville Turf track. Racing begins at 12:30 and includes a competitive Pinnacle Stakes event in Race 7. Below are our South African horse racing tips, predictions and suggested bets for the day’s racing. Race 1 – 1200m (Maiden Plate)
JP’S PALACE produced a good debut when finishing third. He will have come on from that run, and with the natural progression, he should be competitive in this field.

PANTHERA UNCIA has finally understood what racing is about. She has good recent form and meets the right field to shed her maiden tag. With some luck, she can fight out the finish.

Race 3 – 1200m (Maiden Plate)
WOZA NAWE is much better than her last start. She has raced against winners and is a progressive filly. She returns from an 18-week break and, if fit, is the horse to beat.

Race 4 – 1600m (Maiden Plate)
ALWAYS SHINING has been costly to follow and he always seems to find one better than him. He is very consistent for finishing second or third, but he can’t win. He meets the right field here and can finally shed his maiden.

Race 5 – 1000m (MR 70 Handicap)
MASTERBLING is a winner of his last two starts and goes for the hat trick. He does take on stronger, but is in a good space and carries a handy mass of 56.5kgs. With some luck, he can win again.

Race 6 – 1950m (MR 82 Handicap)
AFRICAN DUSK was a surprise winner last time, especially having won with no prior form. I am taking a chance on him to confirm that win and upturn in form.

Race 7 – 1500m (Pinnacle Stakes)
The featured race on the card is a very competitive Pinnacle Stakes. You must go wide in the exotics to survive this leg. The majority of the MR 100+ rated horses are having their first runs after Durban July day, so they will need this run. For that reason, I searched for value and found STRATHCLYDE. The four-year-old has been in top form and is finally showing his potential. He is in superb form with two wins and two seconds in his last four races. He is taking on stronger but carded to race with 52kgs, he can provide an upset. I believe he may be ahead of the handicapper.

Race 8 – 1000m (FM 100 Handicap)
RUSSIAN DOLL has decent form and loves running on from the back. Rachel Venniker takes 1.5kgs off, and racing with 53.5kgs, the mare is a leading contender in this race. Provided she is not too far back at the 400m, she will be mowing them down at the finish. With some luck, she can run into the money and give us some EW returns to close the weekend’s betting.
