Thursday’s horse racing action is available from KZN, with an eight-race program from the Greyville Turf track. Racing begins at 12:20 and includes a competitive MR 98 Handicap event in Race 8. Greyville Selections
Race 1 – 1200m (Maiden Plate)
INDUSTRIALSTRENGTH should win the opener, but at 4/10 in the betting, you should not back the horse as a single bet. He will be a banker for the Bipot, though. I searched for value and liked HOODWINKED, who is back racing after a 110-day break. He should finish in the top three if he is fit and ready.

Race 2 – 1000m (MR 72 Handicap)
STANLEY PARK is much better than his last start, and if you ignore that run, he should be a contender here. I was shocked to see him priced at 16/1, and he represents excellent EW value. Carded to run with 57kgs, with some luck, he should run into the money.

Race 3 – 1600m (Maiden Plate)
This is a very weak race, and if you are playing the Pick 6, you must load up here. MVELELO has the form but has been on a lengthy break. His fitness is unknown, while CARNIVAL PARK is untested after two runs. These two are the short-priced favourites, with question marks on both. I have no suggested bet for this race for those reasons, as well as the lack of form with the other runners.

Race 4 – 1600m (Maiden Plate)
ALWAYS SHINING cost himself last time when he did not jump well. He did rally well to finish second. If he jumps on terms, he is a massive runner and can shed his maiden tag.

Race 5 – 2300m (Maiden Plate)
It is a competitive 2300m race, and many with chances, so go wide in the Pick 6 and Jackpots. FIRE FORCE has fair form and good form lines. He should have no issues with the distance and, with some luck, can fight out the finish.

Race 6 – 2000m (MR 68 Handicap)
KING BAVARIAN is having his peak run and can earn another cheque. He has been running well and has not finished far behind the winners. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs; that low weight can make the difference.

PERILLA ran well in a Listed event last time and can follow up with another good showing. She has good form, with a win and a second in her last three runs. With some luck, she can contest the finish and win again.

Race 8 – 1800m (MR 98 Handicap)
SUNDANCE KID has been running well against some top sorts. He should have won his last race but hung at the 250m mark. Still, he ran second and can go one better here. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off; with 58.5kgs, the five-year-old is a lively contender. At 10/1, have a good EW strike and let’s hope for some good returns.
