Thursday’s horse racing action is available from Gauteng, with a nine-race program from the Turffontein Inside track. Racing begins at 12:15 and includes a competitive Middle Stakes event in Race 4. Turffontein Selections
Race 1 – 1600m (Maiden Plate)
The day opens with a weak work riders maiden race, so caution is advised when betting. I like the chances of AMBITIOUS LADY running well here. She has moderate form but gets a top work rider in the saddle, and that could make the difference.

Race 2 – 1450m (Maiden Plate)
KOMMETJIE STORM is an unraced filly related to multiple Grade 1 winner KOMMETDIEDING. She is entered in a Grade 1 race at the end of the month, so she could be something special. At 9/10 in the betting, I would rather look elsewhere. JILTED did not see out the mile last time but returns to 1450m. She should run a good race and can finish in the top three.

Race 3 – 1600m (Graduation Plate)
It is a boat race between WILLIAM IRON ARM and GREETING MY MASTER. One is at 5/10, while the other is priced at 2/1. I can’t separate the two, so I will take the better odds.

Race 4 – 1450m (Middle Stakes)
MASTER CHRISTMAS is much better than his last start and should bounce back here. He is in decent form, and if not too far back in running, he should be mowing them down at the finish.

Race 5 – 1450m (MR 80 Handicap)
RUN FOR COVER has had two wins in his last four races and is a leading contender. He loves racing over course and distance, with two wins and a second from three runs. He carries 60kgs, but with luck in running, he should finish in the money.
Suggested Bet – RUN FOR COVER EW @ 6/1❌
Race 6 – 1600m (FM 86 Handicap)
WITBLITS is having her first run this year and most likely will need the run. She was carded a hefty mass of 65kgs, but thanks to the appie claim, she only carries 61kgs. She runs fresh and can challenge for some place money if fit.

Race 7 – 2000m (FM 94 Handicap)
ELEMBEE should have won her last start but was unlucky in running. She encountered heavy traffic issues and had no running room. She carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and, with better luck in running, can win.

Race 8 – 2000m (FM 74 Handicap)
GILDA GRAY fought well for her win last time out and escaped with a small penalty. She is in a good space and has the form to be competitive again. She races with 55kgs and can finish in the placings again.

Race 9 – 1800m (MR 86 Handicap)
I have found some value in the lucky last to send us all home happy. MASTER ARIANO has won back-to-back races, and the hat trick is on the cards. The three-year-old is a progressive gelding and could be ahead of the handicapper. He followed up his maiden win with an impressive win against stronger. His last win has been franked, and those runners have had five subsequent wins. At 7/1, he represents excellent value, and I will be shocked if he does not give us some EW returns.
