Thursday’s horse racing action is available from Gauteng, with an eight-race program from the Vaal Classic track. Racing begins at 12:30 and includes a competitive MR 80 Handicap event in Race 7. PIKE PLACE has been disappointing lately. On best form, he can finish in the money. Carded to race with 54kgs, I hope he can show signs of his previous form and sneak a top-four finish at generous EW odds.

AMBITIOUS LADY last two starts have been good. She drops back to the mile, and with some luck from her wide draw, she should fight out the finish.

GIMME THE FLAME last two starts against males were decent. Back against her own sex, she has the form and weight to be competitive.

Race 4 – 1800m (MR 66 Handicap)
FULL GO is better than his last start. Two of his three wins have come on this course, and he should bounce back and run a bold race here.

FAST DUTY takes a drop in class and is a leading contender in this race. The form of his last run has been franked, and if reproducing that effort, he should take a power of beating.

TCHAIKOVSKY was a shock winner last time in a Middle Stakes. He takes a drop in class and can confirm that run with a strong showing here. If he runs anything like his last win, he will fight out the finish.

Race 8 – 1200m (MR 66 Handicap)
Most of these runners have been racing against each other with varying results. So, collateral form is a puzzle here, and instead, I searched for EW value. DARK TIDE fly jumped last time, so ignore that run. The eight-year-old has fair form and does not run too far behind the winners. If he gets better luck in running, he can sneak a place. At 20/1, in the betting, I suggest a small EW bet for some interest in the lucky last.
