Wednesday’s horse racing action is available from KZN, with an eight-race program from the Scottsville Turf track. Racing begins at 12:30 and includes a competitive MR 94 Handicap event in Race 5. Race 1 – 1200m (Maiden Plate)
AYUWI YUWI has produced two good runs so far in her young career and is my pick to win the opener. The filly will love the rise to 1200m, and with Muzi Yeni on board, she can find the winner’s enclosure.

Race 2 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)
It is a weak maiden plate, and caution is advised when betting. I don’t like any of these horses, so instead of a winning bet, I searched for place value. HAPPY LANCER blew the start in his debut and lost five lengths when the gates opened. If he jumps on terms, he can sneak a top-four finish.

Race 3 – 1600m (Maiden Plate)
CAPTAIN MARSALA has good form lines and should finally shed his maiden here. He has a wide draw to overcome but has the early gate speed to get to the front. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie takes the ride, and he can pilot the three-year-old to victory.

Race 4 – 1950m (Maiden Plate)
FUTURE FLO may not be winning races, but he consistently finishes in the money. He should love the rise to 1950m, and Rachel Venniker can ensure another place finish.

Race 5 – 1950m (MR 94 Handicap)
I found some nice EW value in the featured race of the afternoon. ZAKHO needed his last start, as he returned to racing after a year-long break. He should strip much fitter now and carries a low mass of 51.5kgs. With some luck in running, he is a dark horse to win this race, representing excellent EW value.

Race 6 – 1750m (MR 80 Handicap)
QUERARI’S DREAM produced a typical second run after a rest and should strip fitter here. He is having his peak run now and can upset in this field. The four-year-old carries 56kgs and will have no issues with the 1750m. At 12/1, I suggest a decent EW bet on the gelding.

Race 7 – 1200m (FM 88 Handicap)
CHELSEA FLOWER has lots going for her here, with a low weight, pole draw and solid form. Carrying just 49.5kgs, thanks to the apprentice claim, she should have no issues running a big effort. I could not believe her current price of 10/1, and I have no doubts that once race time comes, that price will drop. Make sure to include her in all exotics and have a good EW bet.

Race 8 – 1200m (MR 73 Handicap)
The lucky last, and you should go wide in the exotics. I searched for value and found HAPPY WANDERER. The seven-year-old is carded to race with 50.5kgs and can cause the upset. He raced against stronger last time and should run well in this field. He will need some luck in running, but with five places on offer for an EW bet, I have to have a nibble at his massive odds.
