Match Details

Ghana arrived in North America looking to put the disappointment of missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations behind them. The Black Stars secured World Cup qualification comfortably, finishing top of their CAF group with eight wins, one draw and one defeat. However, poor recent form led to the departure of Otto Addo, with new coach Carlos Queiroz tasked with reviving a side currently on a seven-match winless run.

Panama are aiming to make history by reaching the World Cup knockout stages for the first time. Los Canaleros impressed during CONCACAF qualifying and have continued to show promise despite mixed friendly results. A strong showing against Brazil and runners-up finish in the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League suggest they could be surprise contenders.

Why This Match Matters

If either Ghana or Panama are to make the top two in this group, they will need to win this match. Favourites to qualify from the group are England and Croatia therefore this match is so crucial for these two teams. Ghana certainly has the firepower to overcome the Panama team but the South Americans have proved a tough nut to crack with an all out attack approach. The best chance for the Black Stars will be to be resolute in defence and frustrate their free scoring opponents.

Ghana vs Panama Head-to-Head Stats

Head-to-Head Record

This will be the first competitive meeting between Ghana and Panama. The Black Stars have enjoyed success against CONCACAF opposition at the World Cup as they have won two of the three encounters. Panama have faced African opposition just once at the World Cup, losing 2-1 to Tunisia in 2018.

Previous Meetings

This is the first ever meeting between these teams.

Ghana’s Recent Form

Ghana’s last five matches: DLLLL

Recent results include:

02/06/2026 (Friendly): Wales 1 – 1 Ghana
23/05/2026 (Friendly): Mexico 2 – 0 Ivory Coast
30/032026 (Friendly): Germany 2 – 1 Ghana
27/03/2026 (Friendly): Austria vs Ghana 5 – 1
18/11/2025 (Friendly): South Korea 1 vs Ghana 0

Ghana’s recent form has been nothing short of poor as they have failed to record a victory in their last six matches with five losses and a draw. Their best recent result was a respectable 1-1 draw against fellow World Cup qualifiers, Wales. The Black Stars have also suffered an embarrassing 5-1 loss to Austria during this period. New coach Carlos Queiroz will be looking for an immediate improvement in form.

Panama’s Recent Form

Panama’s last five matches: DWLWD

Recent results include:

06/06/2026 (Friendly): Panama 1 – 1 Bosnia
04/06/2026 (Friendly): Panama 4 – 2 Dominican Republic
31/05/2026 (Friendly): Brazil 6 – 2 Panama
31/03/2026 (Friendly: South Africa 1 – 2 Panama
27/13/2026 (Friendly): South Africa 1 – 1 Panama

Panama on the other hand head into the tournament in excellent form, losing just one of their last five matches (W2 D2 L1). Thomas Christiansen’s men secured impressive victories over the Dominican Republic and South Africa while also earning draws against Bosnia and South Africa. Their only defeat in the last five matches was a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Brazil. Panama have not had any problems scoring goals but their defence has been leaking goals as they have failed to keep clean in their last five matches.

Match Analysis and Verdict

Both Ghana and Panama have arguably their best chance to grab three points in what is one of the toughest groups in the World Cup with England and Croatia. The Black Stars have undoubted class in their team with the likes of Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semenyo but will need to play better as a team. Their confidence will be very low, having failed to win in their last six matches. Ghana will look to dominate possession through the midfield while using the pace of their forwards to stretch the Panamanian defence.

Panama on the other hand are a disciplined and experienced outfit who will rely on the creativity of Adalberto Carrasquilla and the leadership of captain Aníbal Godoy. They have plenty of pace and can be deadly on the counter-attack if the service to Ismael Díaz and José Fajardo is on point. The midfield battle could decide this match as both teams are evenly matched in this department but in the end the world class attack of Ghana will see them to a 2-1 victory.

Prediction: Ghana 2 – 1 Panama
