Colombia and Switzerland have defied the odds to reach the Round of 16 and now have the opportunity to make the quarter finals where the winner will face either Argentina or Egypt. The South Americans will be hoping for their second ever quarter final after going this far in 2014. The Europeans are aiming for the last eight for the fourth time in their history with their last visit being in 1954. The match will take place at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. South African viewers can catch the action at 22:00 on Tuesday 07 July.
Why This Match Matters
Colombia and Switzerland are two of the more unheralded teams at the World Cup but they have shown on their day, they can mix it with the best. Both teams rely quite heavily on their star players especially in attack but this match will be all about defence. This is a great opportunity for these teams to match their best ever finish which has been the quarter final stage. The match is likely to come down to a straight shootout between the Swiss attack and the Colombia defence.

Team News
Switzerland Team News
Switzerland have no major injury worries with Coach Murat Yakin unlikely to make too many changes. He will be hoping that breakout star Johan Manzambi can continue his brilliant form with goals and assists. He only has the Luca Jaquez injury concern to contend with.
Injuries: Luca Jaquez is the only player in doubt.
Suspensions: No suspensions.
Key players to watch: Switzerland will need Breel Embolo to be at his very best against the Colombian defence that has resembled Fort Knox. He has to spearhead the attack, with his strength, movement and ability to hold up the ball. Johan Manzambi is arguably the breakout star of the World Cup and provides a major threat with his dribbling and darting runs that takes on defenders that has resulted in goals and assists for the youngster. Captain Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler need to control the possession in the midfield and look to open the Colombia defence with creativity. Defensively, Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi have to be aware of the threats posed by Luis Diaz and Suarez. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel will be desperate to keep a clean sheet.
Colombia Team News
Jhon Cordoba was injured in the last match against Ghana and has unfortunately been ruled out of the World Cup. His spot is likely to be taken by Luiz Suarez who replaced him in the last match. The Sporting Lisbon man provided the assist for the winning goal which should secure his place in the starting Xl.
Injuries: Jhon Cordoba is ruled out of the tournament.
Suspensions: No suspensions.
Key players to watch: Luis Diaz will be the key man for Colombia with his pace and ability to beat defenders. His runs can stretch the Swiss defence which should open up space for the likes of Luis Suarez. Captain James Rodríguez remains the creative heartbeat of the side but will want a better performance than the previous round after being subbed after 45 minutes. If Colombia can get an early goal, he could be replaced by a more defensive player. Jhon Arias and Gustavo Puerta will need to add energy and drive through midfield. At the back, Davinson Sánchez and Jhon Lucumí must be at their commanding best to contain the physical presence of Breel Embolo. Goalkeeper Kevin Vargas will be looking to keep his third clean sheet of the tournament.
Predicted Lineups

Match analysis and verdict
Switzerland will be hoping their consistency will be rewarded with a quarter final berth as they progressed unbeaten to the Round of 16. Experience has been key for the Swiss with the likes of Gregor Kobel, Manuel Akanji, Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo providing a stable platform while the creativity of Maksim Manzambi has been sensational.
Colombia on the other hand have impressed with their organised defending and dangerous counter-attacking play. Luis Díaz remains their biggest attacking threat while James Rodríguez is always on the lookout for attacking opportunities. The South Americans have conceded just a single goal and possess the quality to punish any defensive lapses.
This promises to be a tightly contested encounter between two sides that have punched above their weight. Switzerland’s composure in possession should allow them to control large periods of the match, but Colombia have enough individual brilliance to make life difficult. I expect a cagey affair that could be decided by a moment of quality, with Colombia edging it 2-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Prediction: Switzerland 1 – 2 Colombia
