Bundesliga 2025/2026 Season Recap

The 2025/2026 Bundesliga season has come to an end with Bayern Munich clinching one of the most one-sided title races in years. The difference in class between the champions and the rest of the league was clear to see from the opening rounds and they just continued from strength to strength with Harry Kane scoring goals for fun. The campaign delivered plenty of excitement, from Bayern’s record-breaking attack to the battle for European qualification and survival at the bottom of the table.

Let’s take a look back at the biggest stories, standout performances and defining moments from another memorable Bundesliga season.

Bayern Munich Continue Their Dominance

Bayern Munich was simply unstoppable throughout the season, scoring a record 122 goals and collecting 89 points, to finish 16 points ahead of second placed Dortmund. Vincent Kompany’s side won 28 games, drew five and suffered just one defeat all season while scoring a staggering 122 goals. After reclaiming the Meisterschale last season, Bayern made it back-to-back championships and wrapped up the title race with several matches to spare. Their attacking football left us in awe at times with Kane and Michael Olise and Luis Diaz weaving their magic.

The big question now is whether anyone can seriously challenge Bayern next season or whether they will continue their dominance in German football.

European Football Qualifications

Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after finishing in the top four. Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen also enjoyed strong campaigns and secured Europa League football for next season. Freiburg narrowly edged out Eintracht Frankfurt in the race for seventh place and a potential European berth, capping off another solid season.

Relegation and Promotions

The relegation battle went down to the wire with several clubs fighting for survival. Heidenheim had a storming end to the season but left their charge too late. St. Pauli were unable to escape the drop and were also relegated to Bundesliga 2. Wolfsburg finished 16th and entered the relegation playoff after a disappointing campaign that saw them win just seven league matches.

They however lost the playoff to Paderdorn who will now play in the top flight in the new season. At the other end, Bundesliga 2’s top performers, Schalke 04 and SV Elversberg, will be preparing for life in Germany’s top flight next season.

Defining Moments of the season

Matchday 30 – Bayern Seal The Title

One of the defining moments of the season came when Bayern officially secured the Bundesliga title on Matchday 30. Their remarkable consistency throughout the campaign meant they wrapped up the championship well before the season finale.

Bayern’s Record-Breaking Attack

Bayern’s attack was arguably one of the best in Bundesliga history. By the end of the season, they had scored 122 goals at an average of 3.5 goals per match. Their relentless attacking style made them one of the most entertaining teams in Europe.

Dortmund’s Strong Finish

Dortmund had a disastrous start to the season and looked to be out of the running for any European football next season but an incredible second half of the season saw them clinch the runner up position albeit 16 points behind Bayern.

The Bundesliga 2025/26 Star Performers

There are many players that stood out in the season, so it was no surprise that most of the top players came from the champions,  Bayern Munich.

Player of the Season

Olise was voted the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season for 2025-26 following a dominant year at the Allianz Arena. The winger has enjoyed a meteoric rise since moving to Bavaria, following in the footsteps of previous winners such as club-mate Harry Kane, Florian Wirtz, and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham. The award cements Olise’s place among the elite of German football.

Golden Boot

Harry Kane finished as the Bundesliga’s leading goalscorer, continuing the incredible scoring form he has shown since arriving in Germany. He scored 36 goals in the league and won this award for the third consecutive year.

Golden Glove

The best goal keeper award went to Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund who kept an incredible 15 clean sheets.

What To Expect For Next Bundesliga Season (2026/27)

The 2026/27 Bundesliga season promises another fascinating campaign.Bayern Munich will once again start as favourites after their dominant title-winning season. Borussia Dortmund will look to get a better start and hopefully close the 16 point gap while RB Leipzig and Stuttgart have shown they can compete with the best teams in the league.

Bayer Leverkusen will aim to return to the Champions League places after a  disappointing sixth-place finish, while Hoffenheim will look to build on one of their best Bundesliga seasons in recent years. The newly promoted clubs will also bring fresh excitement to the division as they attempt to establish themselves among Germany’s top teams.
