Turffontein Selections
Race 1 – 1160m (Maiden Plate)
PACIFIC’s last start was impressive when he finished second, and reproducing that effort can go close again. He gets the services of Muzi Yeni, and he can coax a little bit extra out of the colt at the finish.

KEY WORKER should be too good for this field but represents no value at 35/100. I searched for an EW horse who could place and liked ENCHANTED ROYAL. The filly carries 56kgs and can be competitive and fill out the exacta.

Race 3 – 1800m (Maiden Plate)
THE CANE TRAIN has produced four good efforts and can shed his maiden in this race. He carries 56kgs and, with some luck, can finish ahead of his rivals.

Race 4 – 1800m (MR 74 Handicap)
THAMBI has two wins in his last three starts and is in a good space. He is out at the weights against some of his rivals, but if he can reproduce his two winning runs, he can be competitive.

Race 5 – 1600m (Pinnacle Stakes)
ON THE HORIZON is much better than her last start. Before that run, she had excellent form, and I am backing her to bounce back. With some luck in running, she can finish in the money in the featured race of the afternoon.

Race 6 – 1400m (MR 74 Handicap)
CORRUPT could be anything after his debut win, and at 6/10 in the betting, I am playing to beat him. CIRCUS LIGHTS ran well to win last time out, and the gelding can win again off his current mark. Whether he can beat the progressive CORRUPT is a mystery, but I am backing him to come home the best of the rest.

Race 7 – 1160m (FM 89 Handicap)
I was shocked to see the betting odds on WHAT A LUCY in this sprint race. I expected her to be around 2/1, but I love the value of 4/1. Make no mistake about it, I am sure her price will drop by race time. Everything is in her favour here; she has top form, carries just 52kgs, and runs from the best draw.

Race 8 – 1160m (FM 78 Handicap)
RATTLE BAG has decent form lines and has been running against stronger up in class. She takes a drop in class in this sprint, and even with 60kgs, she can be competitive. With some luck, I expect her to finish in the money.

Race 9 – 1000m (Classified Stakes)
IN THE ETHER, has finished fourth in her last three starts and can run well again. She is carded to race with 54kgs and, with that handy mass, will be mowing them down at the finish. If not too far back at the 300m, she should continue her decent form and run into the placings.
