Two teams in good goal-scoring form clash in the opening fixture of the first-ever Retro Matchday taking place during La Liga Matchday 31 as Real Madrid host Girona. Madrid has the quality to get on the scoresheet, and with the hosts having an eye on the UCL, Girona should be able to score as well.

Sociedad are in great form at home and are undefeated in their last nine home matches. The hosts are only three points away from a European spot and will look to close that gap when they host an Alaves side that lost five of their last eight away league matches.

Elche and Valencia are both in inconsistent form, with the pair losing six of their last ten respective outings. Despite their poor recent showings, they have been strong in front of the goal. With nine of their eleven meetings seeing more than 1.5 goals, this encounter should also feature at least two goals.

The latest installment of the Catalan Derby will be a special one, as both sides will wear throwback kits from their historical pasts. Barcelona have been dominant at home this season, having not dropped points in their fifteen home matches thus far, and should add another win to their record.

Sevilla and Atlético face off in the final fixture on Saturday, with both teams in the same poor run of form, losing their last three games. Two of their last three matches featured BTTS, and with Atlético eyeing Barca in the UCL second leg, this game should see both sides on the scoresheet.

Real Betis are aiming to strengthen their gap on a place in the La Liga’s top five when they travel to midtable Osasuna. They comprehensively beat the visitors in four of their last five meetings and should repeat the result again on Sunday.

Mallorca and Rayo Vallecano are in dismal form, with both sides having three wins in their last nine respective league outings. Eight of their last ten meetings have seen over 1.5 goals, and with both sides fighting for a place in La Liga next season, this encounter should see at least two goals.

Celta Vigo will look to keep the pressure on La Liga’s top five teams when they host relegation candidates Real Oviedo. Celta Vigo drew the reverse fixture at Oviedo and should look to make amends in front of their home support and claim all three points in their pursuit of European Football.

Despite sitting comfortably in La Liga’s top four, Villarreal has struggled on their travels and will face off against a Bilbao side that is strong at home (8 wins, 2 draws, 5 losses). Seven of their last ten encounters ended with at least two goals, and we expect this encounter to feature two goals as well.

Getafe continues to lead the La Liga standings for teams that have produced matches with fewer than 2.5 goals, and are averaging just 1.9 goals per league game. Levante have seen eight of their last ten league matches end with under 2.5 goals, and given both sides’ poor form in front of goal, the final fixture of the La Liga Retro Matchday should see fewer than 2.5 goals.
